Insurance for your Internship Abroad

  StudentsInsured will become Aon Student Insurance

Per July 2018, StudentsInsured will be part of Aon Student Insurances. As a result, the IPS insurance will no longer be available to new customers. Extending your IPS insurance will no longer be possible as well. You can now apply for the ICS insurance instead via Aon Student Insurance.

The information below is only for customers with an existing IPS Insurance. For more information about this integration, please check out the Q&A.

As an intern abroad, it is essential that you are well-insured against unexpected expenses.

The Insurance Passport for Students (IPS) internship insurance

When you go abroad for an internship, there are many things you have to take care of. It is often required that you have a comprehensive insurance, but you probably don’t want to be spending too much time looking for this insurance. This is one of the reasons that StudentsInsured developed an insurance that provides coverage for the most important categories:
1) medical expenses;
2) extraordinary costs;
3) legal aid;
4) accidents;
5) liability (also for your internship address and
6) luggage and household goods.
These categories have been combined into one comprehensive package. On top of that, you can also add a supplemental cover for winter and underwater sports. Read more about the coverage in the coverage overview.

Travel insurance: often insufficient

A travel insurance often provides insufficient coverage during your internship abroad. Travel insurances often completely exclude travels for an internship from coverage. Besides that, they also have a very limited period that you are allowed to stay abroad. Often this is as short as 60, 90 or 180 days. This period is often not enough to finish your internship.

In The Netherlands: Dutch Basic Health Insurance

In the Netherlands, every Dutch citizen is obligated to take out the mandatory Dutch basic health insurance. It is possible that you are also required to take out this insurance once you start your internship. Read more about this on this page
