For whom is PRII intended?
OOM Provisional Residence in the Netherlands provides an insurance for people who cannot get a Dutch basic health insurance, because they have come to the Netherlands with an Authorization for a Temporary Stay (MVV) or are waiting on a residence permit. Health costs can be very high, even when you have a health insurance in your country of origin that covers you in the Netherlands. The risk of these high costs can be hedged by purchasing an insurance for the time of the provisional residence.
Authorization for a Temporary Stay
When foreigners would like to stay in the Netherlands for a period longer than 3 months (90 days), they will need an Authorization for a Temporary Stay, or in Dutch “Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf” (MVV). The MVV makes it possible to travel into the Netherlands. In most cases, the host in the Netherlands will request this MVV for you. You can also request the MVV yourself by submitting the request at the embassy. Your request will be examined to see whether it satisfies the requirements for the MVV visa and/or residence permit.
